Stomach Pain and Gas

Stomach pain and gas are two unfavorable ailments that we all may find ourselves dealing with from time to time but some deal with this on a regular basis with no answer in sight.

I have dealt with both stomach pain and gas myself, probably more often than most, and wanted to share some things that could be causing these ailments for others.  I'm sharing things that may be often overlooked or that have not occurred to an individual as well as certain things that I have experienced myself.

As always please be sure to contact your physician to discuss any concerns you may have.

Stomach Pain and Gas Causes

So, these causes are what I have researched and experienced and does not mean that this is the answer for others.  But the list of causes could create dialogue and create a sense of what if.  They consist of reasons that some may not have thought of or considered.  All of these reasons are based off of inflammation. So here goes:

  • food intolerance/sensitivity
  • lactose intolerance
  • histamine intolerance
  • oral allergy syndrome (OAS)
  • leaky gut syndrome
  • imbalance in gut flora

There are other causes but these are the ones that I am most familiar with.

Stomach Pain Manageable

Yes, it can be manageable and resolved depending on what it is.  Yay!

So after seeing my physicians and specialists as well as doing my own research (probably about 7 years or so), I have a better understanding of why I have stomach pain.  I must say that I am able to manage it much better now that I know the culprits as I have listed.

But the good news, in my case and could be for others, is that it can be resolved and managed.  Yay!! ...I think that is what everyone would like to hear.

Ok, so let me go further into detail.

How I Resolve My Stomach Pain

So when I experience stomach pain, I now know that it can be due to a few things (some as listed in the above causes).  Things that I do to resolve my pain are:

  • limit or avoid eating foods that I have a intolerance or sensitivity towards such as dairy, gluten, chocolate, etc.
  • limit or avoid high histamine foods like tomatoes, processed foods, sugary foods, deli meats, etc.
  • avoid eating raw fruits or vegetables that have a similar protein makeup to a pollen that I'm allergic to or ensuring they are cooked.  So for example, I'm highly allergic to birch and if I eat a plum, which has a similar pollen makeup, most likely I will have a reaction.  This is OAS.
  • take digestive enzymes to assist with digestion
  • take a probiotic everyday to help with healthy gut flora
  • take an antihistamine in the morning and if needed, at night
  • take an expectorant/decongestant to expel and/or dry the mucus  caused by the inflammation from the sensitivity or OAS
